Pictures Inspire Troupe

Kaci | July 7, 2008 | 3:41 am

From left to right are Brian and Katie juggling balls and clubs. respectively. I have no idea where they are but it looks like summer in the south judging by their footwear.

Looking at this picture, Katie and I began to wonder whether we should add to our acro-collective. It seems more can be better, or at the very least, merrier. We were thinking a troupe might be the way to go, many people doing different things that are somehow connected.

The feedback I have gotten so far reminds me that this isn’t a unique idea. In fact, I am convinced there is an outbreak of talent in Raleigh. Just check out Streetlight Productions of Raleigh, a local non-profit that has been working to subsidize the cost of busking permits while promoting the arts. There is also a Raleigh juggling club. I think the main distinction here will be that the troupe would have an act and would practice. Otherwise it might be just a club or a group who meets.

Dang, I actually looked up troupe at dictionary.com and it seems that what really sets a troupe apart is TRAVELING. Though, I think having an act and practicing would help facilitate this travel component.

If you have suggestions about troupe formation, please share. After all, I have never been in a troupe before.

Good Times in Durham

Kaci | July 3, 2008 | 5:02 pm

I must say, performing in Durham is not what I expected. It was awesome. We spent sometime doing tricks in front of the Bulls stadium only to be redirected by authorities to a more remote location. Which is cool, don’t get me wrong. So we set up shop in front of the Mellow Mushroom on the fringe of the tobacco warehouse district. We had the most amazing adolescent audience. Durham children: if you are reading, you are awesome!

Also, if you’ve never been to a Bulls game its not as complicated as you might expect. Just show up at the Kia dealership across the street, park for free, and eat free ice cream.

All in all it was a successful to trip to the Tobacco Warehouse District.

We got a lot of video, check out some of our tricks below!

Durham Bulls Game Tomorrow

Kaci | July 1, 2008 | 3:05 am

On Tuesday, July 1st, we will be performing at the Durham Bulls baseball game! This may be a little tricky since we were not able to get in touch with the proper “authorities” about permits and whatnot. We’ll see what happens. We will be filming tomorrow’s performance for the website (and just in case the police try anything funny, we’ll have some evidence).

In other news, I found some old photos taken by John Morris. Maybe I drank one to many specials at Player’s Retreat tonight, or maybe I’m just being sentimental but John Morris is a great photographer. And, by great I mean he takes lots of pictures of us. He also advised that we update our content as much as possible, so…that’s what I’m doing. Futhermore, he apparently knows Caroleena who is a crazy hooper (hula hoop that is) so maybe there will be some collaboration in the future, maybe.
