Maine, Icecream, and Family Fun

Maine is the final stop on our grand tour of the Northeast. As ice cream connoisseurs, we’ve searched far and wide for flavors that make our taste buds tingle. Pictured to the left you’ll see Kaci and I scarfing ice cream with my nephew Sam and niece Elizabeth. Tonight we had the opportunity to sample the best ice cream in the Northeast! If you’re ever in Wells, Maine check out Sundaes At the Beach. All ice cream is homemade with tender loving care and quality ingredients. As you can see from the picture, Kaci is really getting into the Kahlua Chocolate Chip and I’ve devoured my Coconut Chocolate Chip. They also have delightful Sherberts and Sorbets, one of our favorites is the Pink Grapefruit to cleanse your pallet and leave you feeling refreshed. Although we may not be qualified ice cream experts, we know quality when we see, or rather, taste it!

After we got all jazzed up on ice cream, we decided to do some tricks. Check out our underage recruits in action!

New York City: Slacklining in Washington Square

Our stop in New York City was nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately, we were not able to document a large portion of it due to the fact that I lost our Flip camera on Long Island; which is really unfortunate because we spent a couple nights with some friends in Brooklyn in their (industrial) loft-style apartment. One of their roommates teaches aerial silks and had silks and a swing hanging from the ceilings. She also had an arsenal of hula hoops. Needless to say we were in heaven.

We did get some footage of our trip to Washington Square, where Katie’s dad sent us to check out the old guys who often play chess there. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical, and somewhat curious, as to why Mickey wanted us to visit this place. Maybe it was luck, maybe it was God, either way we found exactly what we were looking for that day in Washington Square.

In the middle of the park, between two large trees, was our soon-to-be friend: Maxwell. I spotted his slackline right away and before I could say anything Katie was already making her way to where he was. It was awesome because we really wanted to bring ours on the trip and didn’t, but Maxwell was pleased to let us play with him. Below is a video of Katie and Maxwell on it at the same time. There are two more videos: Katie juggling on the slackline and me practicing a spin move.

A Flying Mobile of Drummers

Yes, those are people. Yes, they have drums. Yes, they set up giant speakers and blasted beats from up in the clouds. Yes, it’s an amazing flying mobile of drummers. I couldn’t believe my eyes when a giant crane lifted seven guys into the air to serenade Mont Royal at the weekly Tam Tam. Jamming with the drummers of the sky was probably one of my favorite memories of our Northeast Tour. They really do it right in Montreal!

Montreal:A Pilgrimage of Play

As the the birth place of Cirque du Soleil, there was a lot of Montreal hype and I have to say that this town lives up to its reputation. On Sunday we attended a really wild drum circle, the Tam Tams. This event is like nothing you’ve ever seen. Imagine drumming, juggling, dancing, flipping, jumping, throwing, singing, and every other kind of creative expression all to the beat of a hundred drums. It was amazing and awesome and the perfect place to pick up some new tricks.

Art photagrapher, Pierre Desrosiers, got some really great shots of us performing which are posted on the Montreal Tam Tam website.

Montreal was an amazing part of our tour and I look forward to training here next summer. It was nice to be around so many people that wanted to play, share and learn; and also very convenient that dozens of festivals are hosted in Montreal during the summer and everyone is having a great time. I can’t say enough about Montreal’s awesomeness.

We have a million pictures of all the craziness. Check them out at Montreal Tam Tam Photos.

Northeast Tour

We will be hitting the road, or tracks rather, in the next few days to tour and perform around the northeastern US. I say tracks because we will be traveling by train, using Amtrak’s rail pass to get between various cities. Out tentative schedule includes the All Good music festival, D.C., Long Island, Montreal, Albany, Boston, Portland, and maybe Philadelphia. That being said, we should be back in the greater Raleigh area by August 1st.

Don’t worry, the internet is everywhere and Acroentertainment shall not perish. In fact, I expect we will have some really great media to add to the site during our travels.
